Welcome to My Site! My name is Michael "Travis" Stevens and I am running for District 1 of the State Board of Education. This November, vote for Dr. Michael "Travis" Stevens for SBOE, District 1, and let's get to work on improving Texas Education. Thank you so much for your support!
Why I am Qualified to Run
As a Texas certified educator with 14 years of experience and a parent of 3 school aged children, I fully understand the issues that are important to our Texas teachers, parents and students. My job experience and background in education positions me as a candidate who not only grasps the challenges facing today's education system, but also as a candidate who possesses the skills and experience to resolve them.
With a Bachelor's Degree in English, a Master's degree in Education/Teacher Leadership, and a Doctorate Degree in Education/Curriculum and Instruction, I have the educational background to knowledgeably serve on and fulfill the duties of the Texas State Board of Education.
Working as a current public school educator will allow me bring a unique perspective to the SBOE that is based on my day-to-day experiences in the Texas education system. This campaign is not just about holding a position; it's about leveraging my firsthand insights to advocate for policies that prioritize the well-being and success of Texas students and teachers.
On the State Board of Education, Dr. Stevens will work diligently to:

Provide quality instructional materials and curriculum.

Eliminate STAAR testing as a graduation and a school accountability requirement.

Decrease the amount of required, unnecessary and unpaid teacher professional developments.

Advocate for teacher raises.

Look for ways to decrease teacher workload, so teachers can focus on teaching.

Fight to fully fund public schools.

Work closely with teachers via teacher committees, to get their perspective on proposed curriculum changes.
